Current Status

We’re still alive and active developing which you would notice if you kept up with SVN :)

We were at the point to release our Beta but then we discovered some serious bugs which are about fixed by now, but we still need to check everything. I can’t give a current release date or anything. Even if it’s a beta we still want it to be a proper release so we decided to postpone it a little.

Messenger is making good progress, formatted messages are working by now. Twitter is just about finished. Omnivide itself is undergoing some minor changes and Levia is still working on Musical. Our MusicPlayer also has some minor bugs, especially with the lyrics module. So we need to look at that.

But you’re welcome to check out SVN and compile it yourself to see current progress.

Good news, Bad news.

Well I’ve got good news and bad news.

The bad news ; I still need to finish up the Messenger plugin for our beta release.

The good news ; Levia finished his MusicPlayer with Last.fm scrobbling support AND we started on a new MusicPlayer. Which will be more like iTunes. Larger window, extended functionality. Ofcourse this won’t be included in the upcoming Beta. But the finished MusicPlayer, Twitter and Messenger 0.4 will be :)

So hopefully beta very soon. I’m almost done with the basic UI of Messenger, default configuration still needs to be fixed and setting your own avatar needs some bug fixing too. Further it’s almost done for beta release. So except an real release soon :)

I added lyrics support to the music player. Also made some interface changes, and fixed a few bugs here and there.

Check out the last screen on the Screens page.

Last.FM Support

I started working on Last.FM support. It was simple, and now playing and scrobbling is already working. I requested a client ID from Last.FM managers, so that it will be shown as:

Now playing using Omnivide:
<song>

I expect a reply soon.

EDIT: My request has been granted :)

I’m proud to introduce a new plugin to you - Music Player. Currently it’s still in development, but it’s progressing well.

Currently featuring:

  • Mini player mode - change the standard interface to a small, convenient mini player.
  • M3U and PLS support.
  • Create and manage your own playlists.
Check out the screenshots at the ‘Screens’ page!

No Alpha, we’re Beta :)

We decided to skip the Alpha release, since Omnivide itself is at version 0.5.160 at the moment. We still have work to do on the several plugins, so the release will be a bit postponed.

But you can expect to find the Twitter, Messenger and a new plugin, an MP3 Player to be included.

Levia will update soon about his new plugin, the MP3 Player. I can only tell it works well so far ;)

The Messenger plugin however has some significant progress. The features that will be present in the Beta release of Omnivide will be :

  • Avatar support
  • Status changes
  • A nicely formatted contact list (no group support yet though).
  • Personal messages
  • Tray Notifications (if supported) (Requires a bit more work to make it look pretty, so won’t make it to the beta ;))
  • Change own status, personal message, avatar and display name.
  • Retrieve & Send offline messages

Due the big release it’ll probably take a while longer than first expected.

Need a bit of feedback & Alpha coming soon.

To anyone who’s tried our early alpha, please contact any of us with any minor annoyances, suggestions, bugs, errors you might had.

A few things that are already fixed :

  • Duplicate system tray menu’s when disabling/enabling plugins.
  • System Tray not supported exceptions. (Only for non Windows, non Gnome, non KDE systems).
Currently on the short to-do list are :
  • Ability to hide the Main Window only.
  • Proper handling of the Main Window when no tray exists.
  • Expand tray functionality.
  • Plugin repository (already partially working).
  • Twitter 1.0
  • Probably more, but will be coded in directly.

So expect an updated alpha version soon. Once Levia gets Twitter to 1.0 and we manage to improve the main program a bit. It won’t be perfect yet, well maybe. You never know :) But we’re gonna do our best to make it at least function properly for Twitter usage.

Also, Twitter has recognized Omnivide as an official client, so whenever you use our program to tweet it’ll show ‘posted from Omnivide’. :) (Not working in early alpha version yet!)

Pre-Release Alpha Version

We are releasing a small preview of Omnivide, this only includes the main program; Omnivide itself. And the Twitter plugin.

You will need Java 6 to run the program, because of this Mac OS X is not supported.

You can download it in the Downloads section.
